Tuesday Reviewsday: Games library

So for the last couple of months I've managed to stick to the schedule and review one board game a week. I'm a little chuffed with myself for managing this level of committee, but I'm starting to run out. Not all the way out, here's my games library, reviewed and to-be-reviewed:
  • Pandemic - Base game (done) On the Brink expansion (done) and In the Lab expansion (coming soon)
  • Lords of Waterdeep - Base game (done) and Scoundrels of Skullport expansion (done)
  • Betrayal at House on the Hill (done)
  • Takenoko (done)
  • Star Fluxx (done)

  • Zombie Dice
  • Munchkin and all the expansions, seriously that's a lot of cards (Base game reviewed 20/01/2015)
  • Smallworld
  • Settlers of Catan
  • Cluedo (it's a classic and I love it!)
  • The Nightmare Before Christmas game
  • Squatter
  • The White Unicorn (I found it in a cupboard when I moved house, ah childhood!)
  • Mouse trap
  • Loopin Louie
  • Monopoly (yeah, let's be honest I'm probably not writing a review for this unless I get desperate)
  • A few more well known, not super exciting classics like Snakes and Ladders, Othello, Backgammon, Exploring (is this well known?) and Chess
As you can see I've got a fair few options left. But it's been a busy week and I haven't actually played any of the left-over games for a while, so I'd rather put off the review until I can do them some justice. As I see it, I've only got about seven reviews (excluding everything from The White Unicorn down) left to write until I'm sitting here picking my nose and hoping that some big game company decides to send me freebies in exchange for writing reviews. At 25 hits a day I don't think this blog is getting that.
Thanks to moving out and trying to keep the budget low, I can't actually afford to buy a new game every week. Buying them in-store costs anywhere for $60-$100, and while they're cheaper online, shipping costs tend to bump the price up. Generally it works out about $5 cheaper online, and for that I'd rather support a local business and keep some competition in the market.

I do have access to a few more games, for the cost of visiting friends/inviting them around and supplying dinner.
  • Ticket to Ride: Base game and the Europe version
  • Munchkin Apocalypse
  • Munchkin Quest
  • Munchkin Booty (we like Munchkin if you haven't noticed)
  • Dixit
  • Killer Bunnies and the Quest for the Magic Carrot
  • Tsuro
  • Gloom
  • Cards Against Humanity
  • Small world expansions (not sure which ones though)
That puts my potential review count up to at least 18, which means another four and a bit months until I need to buy a new game. I started writing this blog-entry because I couldn't think what I had left to review, but now that I've thrown this list together it turns out I have plenty of material left. That makes this blog a little superfluous, but since I've written it, I'll publish it anyway. As I review things I'll come back and add links, so bookmark this page.

I also have a suspicious feeling that internet robots are pushing up the hits on my blog. Since I've installed AdSense (sorry! I have the power to block offensive ads if you ask nicely) it has listed 12 impressions on the ads but blogger's hit counter has laughed derisively at that number, averaging 25+ per day. Not much in the grand scheme of blogging, but enough considering the number of people reviewing boardgames, and the fact that Fridays are just soap-box rantings. So hello everyone who isn't a robot! Leave a comment and tell me what to review next, or what I should be adding to the games library.

22 hours later, 31 hits on the post according to blogger, 11 hits according to AdSense. That's 1:3 ratio of humans to robots. The apocalypse is soon, better start stockpiling!
